Laser Resurfacing Q & A

What is laser resurfacing?

Laser resurfacing is a facial rejuvenation treatment that improves your complexion and treats facial flaws.

Non-ablative laser
Creekside Wellness offers the state-of-the-art Lutronic ULTRA™ laser that uses non-ablative fractionated treatments to stimulate collagen growth and rebuild healthy skin.

This procedure is customizable, virtually painless, cost-effective, and requires no downtime.

Ablative laser
This type of laser triggers collagen growth by removing your thin outer layer of skin and heating the underlying skin. As your outer layer of skin heals and regrows, it will be tighter and smoother.

What does laser resurfacing treat?

Laser resurfacing can treat several facial issues like:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Loss of skin tone or texture
  • Age or liver spots
  • Sun damage
  • Mild to moderate acne scars
  • Spider veins
  • Rosacea
  • Stretch marks
  • Birthmarks
  • Warts
  • Large oil glands on your nose

Communicate with your provider if you have had laser resurfacing in the past, have an autoimmune disorder or cold sores, are taking acne medication, or are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Your provider provides you with information on how to prepare for a procedure and any known side effects.

What happens during a laser resurfacing procedure?

During the procedure, your Creekside Wellness provider first numbs your skin with a local anesthetic. For extensive resurfacing, you may be fully sedated.

The Lutronic ULTRA laser treatment takes 20 minutes. You may experience a warm sensation but shouldn’t feel any pain. Afterward, you may appear slightly flushed.

You can see results after just one treatment and expect collagen levels to increase for three to six months after the procedure. Your provider may encourage three treatments every year to maintain results.

Ablative laser resurfacing is a similar procedure, where your provider directs a laser at targeted areas on your skin. The resurfacing can take between 30 minutes to two hours. Ablative lasers only require one session and the effects can last several years.

Afterward, your skin will be swollen and itchy, and your provider applies a protective ointment or covering. New skin grows over the treated area in one to two weeks, and full recovery may take up to 21 days.

With both types of laser resurfacing, discuss with your provider how to take care of your skin after the treatments and continue to use a sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30.
